Each engine is tested for proper
performance and leaks before being installed into a vehicle. The
conventional test method is
the hot test, in which the engines run with
their own power until a specified engine oil temperature has been reached.
This
warm up procedure is performed either without applying load to the
engine or with load, while all critical engine data are measured,
monitored and documented, such as
- Rpm
and torque
- Oil pressure and oil
temperature
- Coolant temperature and
coolant flow
- Constant Rpm, ignition, injection, timing, blow by, exhaust gas
emission, etc.
Upon completion of the warm up phase, a
short performance test may be performed. Then the operator checks the
engine for abnormal noises and leaks.
