Leak test system
for hull and complete engines
JW Froehlich’s flexible engine testing system, developed for a German OEM, enables the efficient testing of 3-, 4-, and 6-cylinder internal combustion engines.
The process begins with a leak test on the engine hull, followed by a full-engine leak test to detect potential assembly or component defects. A robot automates the entire procedure, including the removal and reinstallation of covers as well as the oil filling process. The fuel system is then tested using a helium sniffing test, which detects even the smallest leak rates. Additionally, an air-based leak test ensures the reliable testing of the oil and coolant circuits. Finally, the fully assembled engine undergoes functional testing in a cold test stand.
For the development of this test system, the customer benefited from JW Froehlich’s decades of expertise in leak and cold test stand technology. Our advanced cold test solutions require neither fuel nor coolant and reduce operating costs thanks to shorter test cycles. In this custom-engineered engine test system, JW Froehlich’s in-house developed leak testing devices and perfectly integrated measurement technology ensure optimal performance. Furthermore, the SOLVISO® testing software sets new standards for safe and intuitive test procedures, offering advanced visualization and analysis capabilities throughout the entire testing process.
