JW Froehlich has decades of experience in functional and quality testing of internal combustion engines. Since 1978, we have built more than 335 hot test stands, and since 1995, over 260 cold test stands. Our extensive expertise in this field is one of our core competencies, enabling us to provide our customers with expert consultation and optimal solutions tailored to their testing requirements.

Today, JW Froehlich’s hot test stands are used exclusively for sample-based quality assurance of engines and are no longer part of serial production testing. During hot testing, the combustion engine runs independently on fuel. Measurements are taken either without load or under gradually increasing loads, with a brief performance test conducted at the end. The user-friendly, guided parameterization process and the highly automated media supply contribute to the efficient operation of our hot test stands.

Cold testing has become the industry standard for environmentally friendly engine testing and has gradually replaced hot testing at JW Froehlich over the past 30 years. In cold testing, an electric motor drives the engine in drag mode. This process ensures that all assembly steps have been correctly performed and that the engine is fully functional. JW Froehlich’s cold test stands stand out due to their maintenance-free drive heads, specialized measurement and control hardware, and a highly flexible, modular design.

Our in-house developed high-resolution Ethernet measurement technology SOLCOR and our proprietary SOLVISO testing software—featuring an advanced database analysis system—ensure an optimized and highly efficient testing process.

Additionally, our internally developed leak testing devices (Link) are integrated into our test stands and test systems, ensuring seamless incorporation into the testing process.
