Function test stand for rear axle drive

JW Froehlich developed a function test stand for rear axle drives for a German OEM. To meet the stringent noise level requirements of electric vehicles, the tested components must adhere to the highest manufacturing and assembly quality standards. 

During the test cycle, the gearbox is set in motion by three electric motors. Once the target speeds are reached, structure-borne noise measurements are conducted to analyze vibrations and verify compliance with predefined thresholds. 

The customer required a short cycle time despite high variability in tested drive types to minimize operating costs. This was achieved through robot-assisted loading and automated mounting of test adapters, enabling an ultra-fast cycle time of just 70 seconds. 

Thanks to JW Froehlich’s long-standing expertise in function test stands, the company was able to offer significant improvements in test object adaptation compared to previous competitors. These process optimizations led to the contract award and the successful implementation of this application-oriented test stand.
