EOL Test Stands for Motorcycle Engines
The fully automated end-of-line (EOL) test stand, developed for a German OEM, is designed to test 2-cylinder motorcycle engines and their integrated transmissions in a single test cycle. The process begins with an air-based leak test, followed by a quality and functional test of the engine and all six gears in a cold test. High standards, premium components, and state-of-the-art robotic technology ensure reliable test results while meeting the unique project requirements.
During the cold test, the engine is driven by an electric motor, eliminating the need for fuel and coolant. This not only reduces environmental impact but also shortens test times—the cycle time is just 150 seconds—which significantly lowers operating costs. Cost efficiency was a key priority for the customer, as the growing motorcycle market is driving increased cost pressure in functional and quality testing. The integration of engine and transmission testing into a single cold test line is a highly efficient and forward-thinking solution.
With extensive experience in cold test stands for passenger car engines and testing lines in other production facilities, the customer was convinced of JW Froehlich’s high-quality products from the outset. Through close collaboration, JW Froehlich’s expertise in leak and cold test stands was seamlessly incorporated into the project. Optimization proposals were tailored to the customer’s specific requirements, resulting in a customized test system with a perfectly adapted test program.
